Juvenile bald eagle recovering at Red Wolf Sanctuary

Through the collaborative efforts of the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department and the staff at the Red Wolf Sanctuary, a juvenile bald eagle was rescued and is now recovering at its new home. A girl passerby spotted the bird of prey near the edge of a road where it was said to have only been able to run up and down hill, across the road, and through a yard.

River watch is on

With river levels expected to reach 54 feet this week, Rising Sun really won’t be affected much. According to Rising Sun Utilities Superintendent Scott Henry, the river levels would have to reach the high 50s for anything to really have an impact.

Haiti trips provide spiritual fulfillment

Rising Sun native Tim Hillman arrived home last week after his most recent missionary trip to Sonlight Academy in Haiti, where he has sponsored many children and even a couple of American teachers. The sponsorships allow the Haitian kids to get a top-notch education, as the academy is one of the best school in northwest Haiti.

Applications available for OCCF scholarships

Applications for the 2021 Continuing Education Scholarships administered by the Ohio County Community Foundation are currently available on the foundation website at occfrisingsun.com. The scholarships were established by donors with a vision to provide educational grants for current college students and adults wishing to continue their education or begin working toward a degree.

United Way offering more COVID relief grants

Southeast Indiana nonprofits can apply to United Way of Greater Cincinnati Southeast Indiana for a second round of funding providing relief to residents dealing with COVID-19 issues. The relief is made possible by a $300,000 COVID-19 Economic Relief Initiative Grant from Lilly Endowment Inc.

Cheerleading coaches organize fundraiser ride

This is the second year that the Rising Sun cheerleaders and its coach, Heather White-Cook, will host a UTV/Jeep ride to raise money for high school sports, specifically basketball and cheer. The ride is scheduled for 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
