State seeking 50- and 100-year-old businesses

State Reps. Randy Lyness (R-West Harrison) and Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville) encourage local businesses in operation for at least 100 or 50 years to apply for the Governor’s Century and Half Century Business Awards before the March 31 deadline.

The staff can also use it for large donations or for outreach events with bulky equipment.

O’Mara awarded contract to pave city streets

Dave O’Mara Contractor was awarded the bid to pave Rising Sun streets this summer as part of the Community Crossings grant. Rising Sun City Council voted for the O’Mara contract after three bids came in on the project.

Fish fries thrive during the pandemic

COVID-19 can’t stop people from indulging in fish for Lent on Fridays this spring. Fish is cooking all over the area despite the pandemic.

Scouts race their pinewood cars

Rising Sun Cub Scouts enjoyed one of their favorite events Saturday, March 13 – the annual Pinewood Derby. This year, the derby, at the Ohio County Historical Society and Museum, as with everything else, looked a bit different this year.

Registration for the 16th annual Ohio Valley River Cats catfish tournament will begin Thursday, April 1. The tournament will be Sept. 11 and 12. Director Stephen Hannan, with his wife Amber, has been involved with the tournament for 16 years. He enjoys spending his free time with his family fishing and is employed with a barge company so he spends a lot of time on the river. SUBMITTED PHOTO

Catfish tourney sign-ups open April 1

Online pre-registration for the 16th annual catfish tournament sponsored by the Ohio Valley River Cats will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1. The tournament is schedule for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11 and 12.

Being a female who has worked in a “man’s” world my entire career, I would like to share my thoughts about National Women’s Month. I support it and think that it is important that we recognize women and the accomplishments that they have made. It is great to see so many qualified and accomplished women in leadership roles and in male-dominated industries today where they were not included in the past.
