Edith (Harlow) Dugle

Edith (Harlow) Dugle, age 97, of Rising Sun, Indiana, formerly of Sunman, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving children. She was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Switzerland County, Indiana, the daughter of James Otis and Lenna Mae (Stewart) Harlow. Mrs. Dugle attended elementary school at Riverview, Plum Creek and Thornhill as her family moved from farm to farm early in her life. The family bought a farm in Fairview, Indiana, and the Harlow family was finally settled. Edith worked hard on the farm, loving her work outside, planting the crops, milking the cows, feeding the chickens. She could take care of any farm work that needed to be done. Edith especially loved horses and taking care of them, riding, plowing, feeding, watering, and harnessing them. She was baptized at the Plum Creek Baptist Church.

Public schools need your support

There is a bit of an unexpected tussle going on right now in the statehouse. You see, the Republican super majority did not expect to have any problem pulling more money away from public education and giving it to private education entities. It turns out that people are pushing back, and the more they learn about the on-going scheme to give public money to private schools, the less they like it.

Montgomery, Taylor, Martin, boys relay all firsts

VEVAY - Juniors Kendall Montgomery and Grant Taylor and sophomore Dylan Martin marked individual event first-place finishes, while Rising Sun’s boys 4 X 400-meter relay also was a winner in quad meet track and field action at Switzerland County Thursday, April 8.

Baseball shocks No. 2 Twisters

RISING SUN - Rising Sun baseball responded to a 2-1 squeaker loss at Trinity Lutheran last Thursday, April 8, with the biggest upset win of the season so far, 9-4 over Class A No. 2-ranked Oldenburg Academy, Friday at home.

Indiana DNR offers youth camp

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources and its conservation officers are offering 120 spots to the annual Karl E. Kelley Memorial Youth Camp.

Seminar goes over leadership, law for high schoolers

The Leadership in Law seminar is set for July 19-23, according to Dearborn County Judge Sally McLaughlin and Dearborn County and Ohio County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens. Last year’s seminar was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, “Leadership in Law has been a great experience for area students for the past 12 years,” McLaughlin said.

Alumni wanted for annual dinner

The 2021 Rising Sun Alumni Association committee members are looking for graduates of the classes of 1996 and 2011. The group does not have addresses for all of the members of these classes and need assistance reaching everyone to invite them to this year’s alumni dinner.

Everything may have been a little topsy-turvy for over a year, but members of the Southeastern Indiana Art Guild (SIAG) have had plenty of time to create new art work for their annual all member art show.
