Historic investments in K-12 students, education

Indiana entered 2021 cautiously optimistic, and as more Hoosiers head back to work and are vaccinated, projections indicate our state’s economy will continue to get stronger by the day. Indiana’s fiscal strength is reflected in the next two-year state budget, which makes historic investments in K-12 education, all while reducing taxpayer-funded debt and providing opportunities for future tax cuts.

Graycie Collins MSJ signee

South Dearborn High School girls soccer senior Graycie Collins (center) recently signed an NCAA Division III national letter of intent with Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati. Joining her, from left, were brother Garrett Collins, dad Allen Collins, mom Chelsie Collins and sister Gwen Collins. Earning 10 varsity letters over her SD career, Graycie earned 4 monograms in soccer, 2 in swimming and will become a 4-year letter winner in track and field this spring. Ranked No. 3 in SD’s senior class, she is a Merit Scholar Award recipient, multiple Academic Special Scholar Award winner and 2-time ISCA Academic All-State honoree in soccer. She will enroll in the Pre-Physical Therapy program at MSJ. MSJ’s Lions compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. SD ATHLETICS

East Central High School throwers Leo Maxwell and Jessie Stenger were at the top of their games again at the Lakota West Invitational, on Cincinnati’s north side, Tuesday, April 20. Before the cold rain changed to sleet and snow immediately after the meet, Maxwell brought the heat, shattering his former school record with a discus throw of 183’6” on another 2-win night. Stenger won both discus and shot put again, as well, including surpassing her own EC record of 133’0.5” in the disc. East Central boys and girls squads both finished third in the 10-team meet.
