EC THROWERS RE-BREAK RECORDS

East Central High School throwers Leo Maxwell and Jessie Stenger were at the top of their games again at the Lakota West Invitational, on Cincinnati’s north side, Tuesday, April 20. Before the cold rain changed to sleet and snow immediately after the meet, Maxwell brought the heat, shattering his former school record with a discus throw of 183’6” on another 2-win night. Stenger won both discus and shot put again, as well, including surpassing her own EC record of 133’0.5” in the disc. East Central boys and girls squads both finished third in the 10-team meet. Daughtery signs with Grizzlies

South Dearborn High School football senior offensive tackle Andy Daugherty (seated, center) recently signed an NCAA Division III letter of intent with Franklin College. Joining him, also seated, from left, were grandfather Jon Libbert, mom Beth Daugherty, dad Chris Daugherty and brother Jacob Daugherty. Second row, from left, are SD coaches Kenny Higgins, Brayden Milish, head coach Rand Ballart, Albert Larkin and Jackson Bond. Andy earned 3 varsity football letters for the Knights and was named team captain, earning All-County and All-EIAC honors, SD’s Most Valuable Lineman award, Mental Attitude award and Special Scholar Awards. In the weight room, he’s also a member of the Ultimate Knight Club, as well as the owner of a 4.0 cumulative GPA in the classroom. Franklin’s Grizzlies compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. SD ATHLETICS

AURORA - After leading 8-0 early, South Dearborn softball seemed on the verge of a blowout victory over visiting Rising Sun Tuesday. But Coach Anna Eggleston’s Lady Knights (4-5), who had dropped 4 of their previous 5 games, had to get that old sinking feeling again when the Shiners (6-4) rallied for a total of 5 runs in the fourth through sixth innings.

Hatmaker spins perfect game for EC

ST. LEON - East Central freshman Lexi Hatmaker pitched a perfect game 7-0 victory over Rushville Tuesday to up the 11-3 Lady Trojans’ conference record to 5-0.

Park Board to renew Arnold’s Creek lease

Rising Sun Project Manager Mike Northcutt told the city’s Board of Works that he had received communication regarding the expiration of the Arnold’s Creek lease. The lease is generally dealt with by the Park Board, Director Jamie Bell asked as to whether or not the city would continue to mow if the lease was renewed.

Cub Scouts caught cleaning riverfront

Over the last couple of weeks groups of Cub Scouts have been scouring the riverfront for garbage to add to their bags. Each year, the Scouts participate in the Ohio River Sweep to keep the area looking sharp and free of trash.
