Roy K. Heitman, 87, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. He was born March 26, 1936, in Lawrenceburg, Ind., son of the late George and Eva (Plunkett) Heitman.
He spent most of his childhood in Lawrenceburg, graduating as a mediocre student from high school in May of 1954 and entered the Marine Corps in July of 1954. July of 1958, Roy was transferred to Washington, D.C., where he was the promotions manager for Leatherneck Magazine. He returned to Lawrenceburg holding several uninspiring jobs before enlisting in the Air Force as an airman second class (E-3), assigned to the wing information office at McConnell AFB as chief of media. He was transferred to Vietnam in July of 1964 and became news director for Armed Forces Radio Saigon. He retired as a master sergeant in January of 1979.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Razvana (Gabriel) Lungoci; granddaughter, Leandra Lungoci; nephew, Michael (Julie) Douglas; great-nephew, Andrew Douglas; and his great niece, Morgan Douglas
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eva Heitman; wife, Carman Anna Heitman; one brother, George “Pete” Heitman; and his sister, Sharon Douglas.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Grigsby officiating.
Interment will follow in the Greendale Cemetery, Greendale, Ind.
