Robert Edward Koons, 77, of Ekron, Kentucky, (formerly of Rising Sun) passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at his residence.
Bob was born in Switzerland County, Indiana, on Nov. 14, 1945, a son of the late Edith Martha (Walton) Koons and Cecil Shaw Koons. He was a 1964 graduate of Momence High School in Momence, Illinois.
Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines as a sergeant during the Vietnam War. While in service Bob received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Mast and Rifle Marksmanship Badge. He worked for several years for the Bayer Corp. in Addyston, Ohio.
Bob married Linda P. (Chappell) Koons on Dec. 11, 1965, in Summitville, Indiana. Bob and Linda were married for over 57 years until his passing. He was a faithful member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ for many years. Bob enjoyed woodworking, farming and spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife, Linda Koons, of Ekron, Kentucky; by his daughters, Cassandra L. Wilson (Todd), of Ekron, Kentucky, and Aboli M. Gleason (Bryce), of Louisville, Kentucky; by his sons, Robert S. Koons (Connie), of LaGrange, Kentucky, and Matthew S. Koons (Belkis), of Villa Hills, Kentucky; by 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by four sisters, Mary Lou Weller (Coy), of Illinois; Sue McCardle, of Rising Sun, Indiana; Beverly Hillman (Tim), of Rising Sun, Indiana, and Patricia Carter (Bob), of Rising Sun, Indiana; by two brothers, Jerry Koons (Barb), of Rising Sun, Indiana, and Wayne Koons (Carol), of Searcy, Arkansas, and by several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and by his daughter Lindsay Rima Koons.
Funeral services will be noon, Wednesday, May 24, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, Indiana. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, May 24, at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
