In honor of women who paved the way

In these thought provoking times our society feels the need to observe specific days and months of the year in order to honor various groups or individuals. National Women’s History Month, which began around 1911 internationally, is one of those celebrations.

New Crosby firefighter brings experience

A new face was sworn into the Crosby Township Fire Department at the township trustees meeting on March 8. Mark Gaynor brings decades of experience to the department, according to Chief Jason Davis.

For the first time this school year, the Southwest Local School District had zero reported cases of COVID-19. Superintendent John Hamstra said this is big for the district after one of the hardest years in his 21-year career.

Month to celebrate strength, ambition, courage

Each year, March is designated as National Women’s month with a special presidential proclamation to honor the achievements of American women. This celebration began nationally in 1981 with a week in March being declared as Women’s History Week. In 1987 a new bill was passed which proclaimed the entire month of March as Women’s History Month which helps to celebrate the contributions women had made in a variety of fields.

Grubbs is assistant vice president of recruitment

Ivy Tech Community College has named Shakira Grubbs as the college’s statewide assistant vice president of Recruitment, effective March 1. Grubbs currently serves as vice chancellor for Enrollment Services and Student Success at the Lawrenceburg Campus.

EC FFA competes well in district contest

Members from the East Central FFA Chapter competed in the District 12 FFA Leadership Contests at East Central High School on March 6. Contests varied from several categories of demonstrations, multiple public speaking events, and quiz bowl.

Road work expected on Harrison Ave, West Road

Safety improvements are coming to Harrison Avenue and West Road. Harrison applied for safety funds through the Ohio Department of Transportation to improve areas that are considered dangerous.
