One of the main lessons we’ve learned from the COVID- 19 pandemic is that, under a statewide emergency, it makes sense for Hoosiers to have all branches of their state government involved in making decisions that affect them. House Bill 1123 would allow the General Assembly to play a more active role in decision-making during statewide emergencies.

Hoosiers seeking a better-paying job can use the state’s new Hoosier Talent Network website to match to one of more than 135,000 job openings, according to State Reps. Randy Lyness (R-West Harrison) and Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville).

L’burg thumps Pirates to follow 22-5 debut

LAWRENCEBURG - After exploding for a chilly 22-5, 5-inning win at Rising Sun in the season opener last Wednesday, March 31, Lawrenceburg baseball saw its 3-2 lead after 2-1/2 innings at Harrison (Ohio) get buried by a 12-run Wildcats third in a 16-3, 5-inning rout Saturday.

ST. LEON - After a 2-0 start to the long-awaited 2021 season, East Central baseball dropped the next 2 games, including Monday’s 7-5, 8-inning loss to Franklin County in its conference opener.

Baseball Knights retain EIAC bat with 10-3 win

RUSHVILLE - South Dearborn baseball, owner of the EIAC bat traveling trophy since 2019, kept it at home with Monday’s 10-3 win in its 2021 conference opener at Rushville. The bat, a concept formulated by longtime Knights head coach Jay Malott to boost Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference rivalries, remained idle all of last season after IHSAA cancellation of spring sports across the board, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brunner is a graduate

Trevor Brunner from Dillsboro recently graduated from the Indiana Connections Academy, a tuition-free fulltime public virtual school. Indiana Connections Academy has served thousands of students with a variety of needs.

Dillsboro resident earns WGU degree

Leah Smith of Dillsboro has earned a Bachelor of Science, nursing degree from Western Governors University (WGU). The online, nonprofit university has graduated over 218,000 students from across the country since its inception in 1997.

Trabel named as Academic All-State

Lydia Trabel, East Central High School, was recognized as a 2021 Regional Academic All-Star by the Indiana Association of School Principals. Academic All-Star distinction recognizes seniors who excel in the classroom first and foremost, but who also are actively involved in their schools and communities, and take on leadership roles in those activities.
