Mary Elizabeth (Bennett) Koons, 96, of Versailles, Ind., passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at home in Versailles surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Florence, Ind. on May 17, 1927, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ethel Bennett. She attended school in Florence. Mary married Tom Koons on December 17, 1949. They were married 39 years until Tom’s passing on September 23, 1989. Mary worked at Seagrams for 41 years before retiring and raised her family whom she cherished. After retirement Mary enjoyed spending time with family and watching baseball on TV, particularly the Reds. Mary greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
 Mary is survived by her son Tom (Vicki) Koons of Versailles, daughter Connie Fisk of Patriot, Ind. and son-in-law Jerry Bovard of Rising Sun, Ind.; grandchildren: Jacob (Cher) Koons, Jeremy (Brittany) Koons, Jackie (Brian) Murray, Janelle Moore, Holly (Shawn) Huey, Joe (Carrie) Fisk, Coty (Bill) McConahy and Tom (Valerie) Bovard; by 21 great-grandchildren and by nine great-great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Ethel Bennett, by husband Tom Koons, by son Jacob Koons, by daughter Diane Bovard, by sisters Marie (Swango) Bussell and Nellita (Chase) Sandefur, by son-in-law David Fisk and by great-great-grandson Ezra Koons.
 Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19 at Markland Funeral Home.
