Larry Ray Boyd, 76, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, passed away the morning of Tuesday, June 13, near his home in Florida. Larry was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Nov. 30, 1946, and resided in Bright and Lawrenceburg, Indiana, the majority of his life.
He was a 1964 graduate of North Dearborn High School where he played basketball for the Vikings who were Sectional Champions three years running and he was a member of the track and field team. He continued his education at Cumberland College where he received his bachelor’s degree in secondary education and participated in track and field and basketball. He was a teacher and coach at Milan and Lawrenceburg Community Schools teaching Health and Science; he received his master’s degree from Xavier University.
His athletic accomplishments included:
- Multiple basketball sectional championships with the North Dearborn Vikings,
- Letter winner at Cumberland College for basketball and track and field,
- 1968 U.S. Olympic track and field alternate,
- Coached a variety of sports in the EIAC (Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference) at both Lawrenceburg and Milan schools,
- Participated in the softball world series in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Larry was a general contractor and owner of LR Boyd Construction in Bright, Indiana, and Southern Florida for many years. He transitioned his career to insurance, owning agencies in Ohio and Florida. For the last 20-plus years he was an insurance adjuster, manager, and trainer for EA Renfroe out of Birmingham, Alabama.
In his free time, he enjoyed bass fishing with friends and family, hunting, and watching his children and grandchildren participate in multiple activities.
Larry is preceded in death by his father Bruce Wollon Boyd and his brothers, Johnny and Bob Boyd.
He is survived by his loving wife Sherry (nee Britton of Bright, Indiana) of 28 years, sister Nancy (Bob) Dills of Port Charlotte, Florida, daughter Kristen (Dennis) Goodman of Naples, Florida, Jason (Angie) Boyd of Bright, Indiana, Karey (Steve) Ahaus of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Kim (Matt) Craig of Greendale, Indiana, and Andi Gladon of Mason, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, Bailey, Brayden, Noah, Dawson, Brooke, Kayla, Madisyn, Ashton, Tucker, Logan, Bryleigh, Liam, Carly and great-granddaughter, Haven and countless family members and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on June 29, 2023, at the Lawrenceburg Event Center with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. and a service at 5:30 p.m.
