Joseph F. Streit III

ALBANY, INDIANA – Joseph F. Streit III, 68, of Albany, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Born Feb. 9, 1954, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he grew up in Ohio and was a 1972 graduate of William Henry Harrison High School. Joe was the owner/operator of Streit Trucking and was a semi driver for most of his adult life; on the road he was commonly known as The Milkman or Old Man Joe. He also dairy farmed in Franklin County, Indiana, for several years.

Joe was a member of The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. He enjoyed campfires, spending time with family, and riding his Harley trike, known to him as Trixie. He will be affectionately remembered as a jack of all trades and master of none.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Streit; sons: Dennis J. Streit (wife: Christina), Panama City, Florida, and Jason R. Streit (wife: Katrina), Ellinwood, Kansas; daughters: Julia Collins (husband: John, who was like a son to Joe), Brookville, and Autumn Troxell (boyfriend: Andrew McWilliams), Albany; brother: Gus Streit (wife: Gail), Oldenburg; sisters: Joann Koch (husband: Chuck), Brookville, and Joyce Lake (husband: Frank), Cedar Grove; mother-in-law: Shirley Troxell, Muncie; 23 grandchildren: Benjamin Stone (wife: Christina), Madison Collins (fiancé: Matt “Helmet” McCoy), Naomi Schrader (husband: Brandon), Chloe Streit, Abigail Streit, Bailey Streit, Toby Streit, Sally Streit, Wesley Streit, Kaleb Streit, Karilyn Streit, Skylar Robbins, Gage Robbins, Riley Robbins, Kloe Robbins, Sandra McWilliams, Xander McWilliams, Lilly McWilliams, Zayne McWilliams, and Remington McWilliams; great-grandchildren: Brynleigh Stone, Hadley Stone, McKinley Stone, and Jensen Stone. He is preceded in death by his son, Zachary Ryan Streit, parents: Joseph F. (Jr.) and Bethuma (Jolly) Streit, and a sister: Carolyn Roehrig.

A celebration of Joe’s life will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at Meacham Funeral Service, 648 W. State St., P.O. Box 275, Albany, Indiana, 47320. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. A gathering for family and friends will held at 3 p.m. Sunday at AMVETS Post 12 in Royerton.
