John Jeremiah Backman IV, “Jerry”, 65, of Aurora, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. He was born June 27, 1959, in Lawrenceburg, Ind., son of the late William D Backman Jr. and Day Backman.
Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an accomplished hunter and was a member of NRA and Safari Club International. He was the owner of the “Backstop” softball team and was an inductee in the Softball Hall of Fame. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed his fireworks and numerous people have enjoyed a Backman Firework Show. He was the type of person that would give you the shirt off his own back if you needed it. He was a huge supporter of youth activities and was the driving force behind getting the “Backman Field” at South Dearborn High School.
He is survived by his mother, Day Backman; stepmother, Cathey Backman; son, John Jeremiah Backman V, “JJ”; three daughters, Brett Quiett (husband Greg), Blake Backman, Carissa Backman; two brothers, William D. Backman III (wife Lori) and David P. Backman; three grandchildren, Cosima Quiett, Harlin Logan, Lily Gluck; two nephews, Nich Backman, David Backman; niece, Bree Backman; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, William D. Backman Jr. and his nephew, William D. Backman IV “Billy”.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Corey Potts officiating.
Interment is private for family at the Riverview Cemetery, Aurora, Ind.
