Mr. James “Jim” Michael Connolly, 75, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Madison, entered this life on December 19, 1947, at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio with his twin brother, John. He was the loving son of the late Earl Ford and Carolyn Frances Kittle Connolly. He was raised in Madison and graduated in 1966 from Madison Consolidated High School where he was very involved in all school activities. Jim attended the University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind. for one year when he was drafted into the United States Navy. He entered active duty on March 2, 1969, during the Vietnam War. He rose to the rate of Communication Technician Petty Officer Third Class. He was honorably discharged on January 26, 1973, in Washington, D.C., receiving the National Defense Service Medal. He then was transferred to the Reserves until he was discharged on February 2, 1975. He finished his business administration degree with Indiana University. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in downtown Madison and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Madison and served as Lieutenant Governor in 1989/1990 of the Scenic Hills Division. He also held membership in the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion and was a past commander of the post. Jim was blessed with three daughters, Amy, Megan and Victoria. He was employed with Fifth/Third Bank and Rising Sun Bank early in life working in the banking industry. He worked for 12 years in purchasing with Indiana Kentucky Electric Company and then worked with King’s Daughters’ Hospital for four years in purchasing. On June 21, 1986, Jim was united in marriage to Paula Carleen “Wendy” Brunton in Madison. This happy union had celebrated 37 years of marriage together. Jim and Wendy moved to Indianapolis and he began a career with Methodist Occupational Health working maintenance from 1993-2007 when he retired. Jim loved working crossword puzzles and watching sports. Jim died on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 8 a.m. at IU Health West Hospital in Avon, Ind. Jim will be missed by his loving wife of 37 years Wendy Brunton Connolly of Indianapolis, Ind.; his daughters, Amy Cavazos of Kokomo, Ind., Megan Williams of California, Victoria Killion and her husband Max of Indianapolis; his grandchildren, Maddie “Max” Lutgens and Kalvin Lutgens, Stephen Cavazos, Noah Cavazos, C.J. Cavazos; his great-granddaughter, Violet Cavazos; his twin brother, John Connolly and his wife Darleen of Madison; his sister, Jo Connolly Lorenz of Indianapolis; his mother-in-law Betty C. Varble Brunton Konkle and her husband Paul of Madison; his brother-in-law, Michael Brunton of Carmel, Ind; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father Earl Ford Connolly who died December 6, 1993, his mother Carolyn Frances Kittle Connolly who died February 19, 1985, his sister Nancy Connolly Smith who died June 9, 2017, his father-in-law Oliver Dee Brunton who died April 6, 1990, and his grandchild Max Cavazos. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 2 p.m. by Bro. Bob Hicks at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison. Interment will follow on Monday at 11 a.m. at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison. Friends are invited to visit Saturday from 12 – 2 p.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison. A final salute with military honors will be provided by Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison.
