James Lawrence Lyttle, 96, of Bright, Ind., passed away peacefully January 14, 2024, at Ripley Crossing, Milan, Ind. He was born November 12, 1927, in Owsley County, Ky. (Bonneville), the son of Arthur and Bertha (Callihan) Lyttle. He married Eleanor “Boots” Beck on August 30, 1945, in Lawrenceburg, Ind. They were the parents of three sons, Jim, Tim and Kurt.
Lawrence served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was discharged August 6, 1947. He retired from Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co. after 36 years of service. Lawrence was involved in starting the following in Bright: Little League/Knothole Baseball, Boy Scout Troop 44 and the Lions Club. He was very active in these organizations for many years. He loved to read, listen to old country music, restore Farmall tractors and build objects out of wood. Above all, he loved his family.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, by his parents, by his son Tim Lee Lyttle and by his siblings Berdina Carter, Joyce Huffman, Frances Burgess, Tish Mallot, William and Paul Lyttle. He is survived by his sons, Jim (Marilyn) Lyttle of Boca Raton, Fla., and Kurt (Pam) Lyttle of Aurora, Ind.; by six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; by his brother Art (Ruth Ann) Little of Bright and sisters Linda (Henry) Badore of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Myrtle White of Logan, Ind.
Visitation Tuesday, January 23, 2024, 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Dennis George Funeral Home, 44 S. Miami Ave. (POB 194), Cleves, OH 45002. Interment with military honors provided by Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard following the funeral service in Gibson Cemetery, Bright.
