Howard E. Hiler passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on November 2, 1939, to Russell and Hazel (nee Bibee) Hiler, Howard lived a life rich in love, service, and unwavering faith. He resided in Harrison, Ohio, where he fostered deep connections with his community and his family.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Howard’s passion for flying took him beyond the military, as he continued to share his love of aviation as a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol. His adventurous spirit and attention to detail were evident in his work as an electrician, a career he dedicated himself to following his military service.
Howard’s heart found its partner in Sallie, whom he met while working at Cincinnati Incorporated. Their connection blossomed quickly, culminating in a beautiful marriage on October 23, 1965, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey filled with love and mutual support.
After more than 35 years with Ford Motor Company, Howard embraced retirement with the same enthusiasm he brought to his professional life. He devoted his time to volunteering at the Creation Museum, where he shared his deep faith and knowledge with others. Known for his kindness and strong Christian values, Howard embodied the spirit of generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand or share a thoughtful conversation about the weather.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Sallie Hiler; infant daughter: Kari Lynn Hiler, parents: Russell and Hazel (nee Bibee) Hiler; brothers-in-law: Green, Charlie, Raymond, and George Hollin and sisters-in-law: Ethel Jones and Lillie Snyder.
His legacy will live on with his beloved children: Aaron B. Hiler, Amy (Robert Rager) Hiler-Rager and Allison “Allie” Hiler; cherished grandchildren: Brittany Goode, Amanda Goode and Olivia Hiler; dear great-grandchildren: Zendaya, Ace, Hazelynn, Hendrix “Henry”, Howard “Howie”, Hudson, Orion and Omoura; his siblings: Nancy (Dan) Woods, Jane (Jack) Kaiser, Lois (Larry) Fliehman, David (Jackie) Hiler, Judi Wilson and Larry (Melanie) Hiler; and sister-in law: Martha Metzler. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine Street, Harrison, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. Pastor Jim Sandusky will be officiating. Burial to follow at Glen Haven Cemetery with Military Honors.
Memorials are requested to Alzheimer’s Association or New Life Church of Christ Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home.
