George Russell “Rusty” Slayback, 78, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023. He was born on Christmas Day in 1944 in Aurora, Indiana, son of the late Charles and Margie (Baker) Slayback.
Rusty grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1964. He loved his country and was a proud Vietnam veteran. In his free time he loved playing golf, fishing, hunting and finding treasures at flea markets. He worked at Aurora Casket Co. He most especially loved spending time with his goddaughter’s children, Noah, Storm, and Skyla, whom he considered his grandkids. He will forever be remembered for the smile on his face and his gentle and kind spirit.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert (Kathy) Slayback of Indianapolis, Indiana, Harold “Kenny” Margie) Slayback of Aurora, Indiana; goddaughter, April (Shaun) Hall of Batesville, Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, great-great-great nieces, and great-great-great nephews.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Carol Slayback; his parents, Charles and Margie Slayback; his brothers, John Slayback, Gerald “Jerry” Slayback, Walter “Wally” Slayback, Lowell “Thorny” Slayback; and his sister, Charlene Slayback.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Saturday, April 15, 202,3 at 3 p.m., with Pastor Tim Russell officiating.
