EVERETT NEWHOUSE

Everett “Alan” Newhouse, 89, of Peoria, Ill., formerly of Metamora, Ill., died Friday, June 20, 2025, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Alan was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Everett George and Martha Ann (McKinney) Newhouse. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Corning and Dan Newhouse.
On August 19, 1961, he married Jayne Chapman in Mississippi. They have been married for 64 years and Jayne was always the center of his life. They built everything together – family, home, and purpose. She survives.
Alan is also survived by his two children, Allison (Tyler) Elwood and Christopher (Deanna Darm) Newhouse; and five grandchildren: Olivia, Aidan, Julia, Austin, and Bailey.
Alan was a graduate of Lawrenceburg, Ind., High School, class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and earned a master’s degree in social work. He spent over 40 years with Urbana, Ill., Public Schools, where he quietly and consistently showed up for students who needed someone to believe in them. His care made a lasting difference.
Alan was thoughtful, present, and steady as a father and grandfather. He was known for his dry humor, sharp mind, and unwavering commitment to his family.
In his final days, Alan spoke plainly about his readiness to go – his belief in heaven, reuniting with those who went before him, and finding peace. We believe he is there now and is still with us, a quiet guardian watching over the people he loved most.
Cremation has been accorded. There will be no service at this time. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, Ill., is handling arrangements.
