Esther Marie Uhlmansiek, 99, peacefully passed away on April 15 at her home in Shelbyville.
Esther was born to Harry and Minnie Ampt on Sept. 10, 1923. She was one of four children. Lester, Florence and Mabel all proceeded her in death.
She married Harley Verl Uhlmansiek Sr. in 1944. They had one son, Harley Verl Uhlmansiek Jr., and both husband and son proceeded her in death.
“Grandma,” as she was affectionately known to many, was a member of the Sparta Baptist Church. She was also a member of numerous associations, clubs and volunteered her time sharing stories, jokes and her apple pies.
Esther and her husband traveled across the United States. They loved snowmobiling and made numerous snow mobile trips to Yellowstone and Michigan.
She was an employee for over 20 years at Federated Department Stores, where she was an executive assistant.
Esther is survived by daughter-in-law Jan Uhlmansiek, the wife of deceased Harley Uhlmansiek; granddaughter Sherri Walter, wife of Tracy; grandson Tim Uhlmansiek and wife Shelly; great-granddaughter Amber; great-great-granddaughters, Lesleigh and Daphne; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with a funeral service following at 1 p.m., with Pastor Wayne Daugherty at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora, Indiana.
