Donald Ray Snelling

Donald Ray Snelling, 84, of Ohio County, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Mercy Health West in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Donald was born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, on Sept. 6, 1938, a son of the late Loretta A. (Schwab) Snelling and Raymond Snelling. He was a 1956 graduate of Rising Sun High School.

Donald was always a farmer at heart. He also worked at Anchor Glass in Greendale, Indiana, for over 40 years. Donald was married to Ellen Ann (Waldon) Snelling on Jan. 11, 1958, at the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ by Rev. Fogle. Donald and Ellen were married over 62 years until her passing on June 22, 2020.

Donald and Ellen were instrumental in starting the Parkinson’s Class at the Aurora Recreation Community Center. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ. Donald was a poll worker during elections in Ohio County for many years. Donald enjoyed hunting and loved spending time with his family.

Donald is  survived by a daughter, Donna White, of Ohio County, Indiana; by two sons, Michael Snelling (Cindy), of Ohio County, Indiana, and Jerry Snelling (Carla), of Perry, Florida;  by grandchildren: Jeremy Ray Foster (Rose), Nathan Wayne Foster, Holly Marie Snelling, Tiffany Michelle Lane (Mitch), Stacy Marie Snelling, Scott Raymond Snelling and Christopher William Snelling; by great-grandchildren: Rave, Kymberly, Kylie, Damien, Hunter, Samuel, Annais, Nathan Jr., Jacob, Savannah, Bladen and Tanner. Donald is also survived by a sister, Helen Jane Smith (Robert), of Plant City, Florida. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife, Ellen Ann Snelling and by brothers, Robert and Edward Snelling.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, Indiana, with Josh Fennell officiating. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1p.m. on Monday, April 17, at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Aurora, Indiana.
