Hoosier History Highlights from the Indiana Statehouse Tour Office James “Jimmy” McDaniels was a “musician’s musician.” Born in Alabama, he spent many years of his life in Indiana. Known to Hoosiers as “The Piano Man,” he came to the state with a rich background of talent and service.

An interesting West Harrison resident from the 1950s was honored in a Harrison Press article in that time period. This person had touched the lives of so many Harrison residents that they wanted to thank him for just being him.

On May 28, 1938, 30-yearold Indianapolis artist Henrik Martin Mayer attached a 12-foot by 5-foot-6 inch canvas mural called “Down to the Ferry” on the wall above the postmaster’s office door in the newly built Aurora Post Office, 501 Third St.
