Alma Alice (Burnett) Nally, age 97, of Parrish, Florida, formerly of Vevay, Indiana, passed away at 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021, in Parrish, Florida. Arrangements entrusted to Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home.
William A. “Just Bill” Marksberry, 65, of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Rising Sun and Ohio County are mourning the loss of a true community servant, former mayor and county commissioner William “Just Bill” Marksberry. He died Saturday, May 8, after an extended fight with cancer. He was 65.
Staff at the Rising Sun Education Center recently congratulated Deb Grigsby on graduating with her general education diploma, 21 years after abandoning her high school education. She completed the adult education classes online with the help of her mentor, Katie McCann Walton, who is a teacher at the center.
Rising Sun Mayor Steve Slack recently signed an executive order proclaiming honor and thanks to Dr. Christopher Walcott, Ohio County health officer, and his staff at the Ohio County Health Department for their “tireless efforts” in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
VEVAY - Trying to hang in the Ohio River Valley Conference race, Rising Sun baseball threw the brakes on a 3-game skid with Friday’s 12-7 win at Switzerland County. But Coach Kevin Wirsch’s Shiners (5-8, 3-3) took a hit with their second-straight ORVC setback 2 nights earlier, at home against Southwestern (Hanover), with 3 errors helping kick away an 11-6 loss.
Cicadas are somewhat harmless – if you don’t mind high pitch singing for hours on end while you’re trying to enjoy the outdoors. They don’t bite and they aren’t poisonous, and you can actually enjoy them as a nice snack, if you’re into that.
VERSAILLES - Winning 3 of 4, including 2 of 3 in Ohio River Valley Conference play, Rising Sun softball strengthened its stance in the league race, at 6-1, with Saturday’s 9-8 thriller win in 8 innings at South Ripley.
RISING SUN - Drizzly, cool weather last Thursday, May 6, greeted the Rising Sun Invitational track and field meet, with South Dearborn sweeping both halves of the 6-team competition. The host Shiners finished fourth in the men’s team standings with 43.5 points, behind SD (140.5), Lawrenceburg (134) and Southwestern (Hanover) (91).
