Students in the Southwest Local School District finished out one of the most unique school years on May 28. Superintendent John Hamstra spoke on the tumultuous school year in a video update to the district.
Melissa Fryman, 76, of Guilford, Indiana, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021. She was born June 14, 1944, in Johnson County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Clyde and Elsie (Caudill) Castle.

Although the numbers don’t look like it Dearborn County could be close to herd immunity in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. As of Wednesday, May 26, there were 17,046 people in the county fully vaccinated, according to the Indiana Department of Health’s COVID dashboard.
While many will say goodbye to the old elementary buildings in the Southwest Local School District, one building will remain in use. On May 20 the Southwest Local Schools Board of Education voted to renovate Whitewater Valley Elementary School.
When Sandy Flach’s Lawrenceburg home was destroyed in a fire last week all she had left were the clothes on her back and the stuff in her car. The Harrison community was part of a number of groups that rallied around Flach and offered whatever it could give.
