From 2016 through 2019, Harrison High School’s boys tennis team had lost a combined 26 of 40 matches against Greater Catholic League teams Badin and La Salle. Coach David Williams annually puts together a difficult non-conference schedule, and the Wildcats sometimes struggle against larger schools or more “tradition-rich” programs.
Outside of postseason competition, it would be difficult to find more high school track and field talent in one setting than will gather at Harrison High School this weekend. Twenty schools will participate in the 41st annual Greg Zuleger Harrison High School Track and Field Invitational April 15 and April 16.
A wrapup and preview of Harrison High School sports (schedule subject to change): Baseball (1-3 overall; 0-0 Southwest Ohio Conference) Results March 27: La Salle 7, Harrison 4 – Nathan Blank was the only Wildcat with more than one hit (two). March 31: East Central 14, Harrison 4 – Nathan Blank, Masyn Dallio and Grant Morse each had two hits; Blank drove in three runs.
High School’s golf program in recent years has played two home courses – Circling Hills Golf Course and Miami Whitewater Golf Course. Beginning this summer they will have more than 250,000, all in an area no bigger than a classroom.
Someday, perhaps this week or this month, when everyone is healthy and the protocols maybe, just maybe, become less burdensome, Harrison baseball fans will have a better idea about the talent on the 2021 Wildcats.
Slow down and play fast. Contradictory? Yes.
Two batters into their scrimmage with Little Miami March 20 – 668 days since the last time Harrison High School’s baseball team stepped on a field against an opponent – the nerves showed. How else to explain that the first out of the game, of 2021, was scored 5-9-4-5-9-2 – third baseman to second baseman to right fielder to third baseman to right fielder to catcher.
Tennis requires a lot of skills – hand-eye coordination, foot speed, coordination, agility. And, judging by the scene at Harrison High School’s courts March 17, the ability to avoid balls strewn across the court as you rush the net or move from side to side.

Harrison High School’s track and field practice March 11 was canceled, just as it had been on the same date one year ago. This time, though, weather – a light, steady rain - was the culprit.
