The Friendship State Bank has been honoring the Wilke S. and James W. Lemon legacies with a scholarship for over 20 years. This year the community bank will award five high school seniors who show a commitment to their community a $1,000 scholarship for college. The deadline to apply is Monday, April 5.
The Rising Sun Regional Foundation’s 2021 Scholarship Program will award $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors for the purpose of post-secondary education in any accredited institution of higher learning.

Students in Rachel Ransom’s first-grade class at Moores Hill Elementary learned about the legend of the famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil on Groundhog’s Day. Marlie, Morticia, Scarlett, and Sophia are shown with their groundhog coming out of his burrow. Taylor Oberjohann of Harrison was among the seven Ohio Connections Academy (OCA) students to receive a Prudential Spirit of Community Award in recognition of their volunteer service to the community. Oberjohann, an eighth grader at the online public charter school, worked with school, city and county officials, as well as representatives from Duke Energy, to replace and upgrade traffic and crosswalk lighting signals in front of the local middle school to ensure the safety of the pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
