Although the last two days of spring break for students in Rising Sun schools were spent making up snow days via e-learning, students at the Ohio County Elementary/Middle School enjoyed eight days packed with fun before school started back up.
This past two weeks was spring break. My family and I went to Okaloosa Island, Florida. We did many activities including the beach, Gulfarium, alligator beach, turkey trail, and eating lots of shrimp. My favorite part was the food.
The pandemic that created social distancing has also brought together groups of Harrison High School students recently. The issue: Students in the high school of business program offered by Great Oaks Career Campuses at Harrison qualified for state DECA business and marketing competition, but since the event is virtual, they needed to record their presentations.
February is Career-Technical Education Month across the United States. It’s a chance to recognize the millions of American students studying and preparing for a good career as well as the instructors and professionals who teach those students.
Starting this fall, high school juniors can learn to work on planes and jets, preparing for FAA certifications and earning college credit by the time they graduate. The Aviation Maintenance Technician program offered by Great Oaks at the Laurel Oaks campus in Wilmington is expanding to the Diamond Oaks Career Campus in Dent.
Students at Moores Hill Elementary School participate in Project Lead the Way (PLTW) lessons incorporated with their science classes. The fourth-grade students in Pam Bartholomew’s class have been learning about energy and collisions.

Members from the East Central FFA Chapter competed in the District 12 FFA Leadership Contests at East Central High School on March 6. Contests varied from several categories of demonstrations, multiple public speaking events, and quiz bowl.

Ivy Tech Community College has named Shakira Grubbs as the college’s statewide assistant vice president of Recruitment, effective March 1. Grubbs currently serves as vice chancellor for Enrollment Services and Student Success at the Lawrenceburg Campus.
