RISING SUN - Back-toback 3-2 conference wins - the latter an 8-inning thriller at South Ripley - gained momentum for Rising Sun baseball headed to Tuesday’s (late) Class A sectional matchup with Austin at Jac-Cen-Del.
RISING SUN - Capping the regular season with a 4-game league winning streak, Rising Sun softball clinched the Ohio River Valley Conference championship with home field victories over Jac-Cen-Del and South Ripley last week.
Spring has definitely now sprung, and the Dearborn Highlands Arts Council introduces the group’s Spring Into Art exhibition to celebrate. The annual spring exhibition features paintings, photography and sculptures.
After taking last year off due to the pandemic, the Rising Sun High School cheerleaders were back for their third year hosting Princess Night May 21. The annual fundraiser raises money for the cheer squad and is put on by the cheerleaders, their coaches, and parent volunteers.
Workers with the Rising Sun Street Department recently painted a red line in between the double yellow line already dividing the part of High Street that runs in front of the Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Department. The red line was added to show respect and appreciation for the local fire department and its volunteers. The idea was introduced a few months ago when Rising Sun resident Sunshine Colen saw the idea on Facebook and proposed that the city paint blue lines on the streets in front of and beside the Rising Sun Police Department. VEVAY - Four Rising Sun athletes earned all-conference honors as Ohio River Valley Conference track and field champions in the league meet Tuesday, May 11, at Switzerland County High School. Shiner thinclads registered a pair of fourth-place team finishes in both genders of the ORVC Championships, contested for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 spring season.
Another animal was taken to the Red Wolf Sanctuary where it was rehabilitated and will eventually be released back into the wild. A snapping turtle, named Sigmund, had been run over and suffered from severe cracks in its shell and jaw.
