Fair royalty

The royalty of the Ohio County Fair were named in May and reigned throughout this week at the fairgrounds. After interviews all of the candidates where they answered questions about their 4-H experience, Alayna Walcott, daughter of Jason and Dawn Walcott, was selected queen, while Olivia Cate, daughter of Steven and Kristie Cate, and Jacob Yauch, son of Dan and Jill Yauch, were selected princess and prince.

Parks planning 5-year plan

The Rising Sun-Ohio County Park Board held a public information meeting June 22, at the Rising Sun-Ohio County Community Center for a five-year Parks Master Plan. Comments on the agenda included ideas regarding the Rising Sun-Ohio County park system and the most critical issue facing the park system.

Summer Sounds sounding good

The Summer Sounds on Main concerts appeared to have been enjoyed by those who attended with the weather cooperating. Kendal Miller, executive director for Ohio County Tourism, was passing out hand-held fans and greeting visitors who came to enjoy the food and entertainment.

New Eagle Scout

Boy Scout Troop 605 had an Eagle Scout ceremony for Robert Michael Bailey at his grandmother’s house , Debbie Cole, at Abeerdeen on June 18. It was attended by a lot of friends, relatives, and Boys Scouts. Bailey earned the required 21 merit badges for Eagle and 10 more merit badges for two Palms to be put on his ribbon. The Eagle badge was presented by Scout leaders Ken Alwin and Michael Macku with his grandparents present, Jim Cole and Debbie Hayes Cole.

Remembering fairs of the past

The Ohio County 4-H fair begins this week, and the countdown begins for project completion. Many parents of past and present 4-Hers are all too familiar with scrambling to get the last-minute touch-ups finalized and to get to project check-in by the deadline.
