HARRISON – City council discussed how to fund the city’s fire department in the wake of its expiring fire levy. The current levy, set at 2.4 mills, was voted on in 2019 and provides about $680,000 to the city.

RISING SUN – The Ohio County Council passed an ordinance to raise taxes at a joint meeting with the County Commissioners on Monday evening. The ordinance approves a 0.5% increase in local income taxes – from 1.5% to 2% – which will benefit public safety and emergency medical services.
Julia Jimenez, Democrat Julia Jimenez, 49, is a lifelong Rising Sun resident. She is currently a homemaker, but worked formerly as a staff accountant at the Grand Victoria Casino, now the Rising Star Casino. She is married to Steven Jimenez and has two sons.
Incumbent trustee Mark Louis, 60, is running for Harrison Township challenged by Kenny Fohl. Fohl did not return several messages to respond to The Register “I am running for re-election to continue the work of serving my community as I have done for the last 11 years,” Louis said.
Four candidates are vying for seats on the Southwest Local School Board – incumbents Jeff Biddle, Robert Kief and Chis L. Payne with challenger Rodney A.
Sunshine Colen, Republican Sunshine Colen, 44, is a native of Rising Sun, and works as a bartender at King’s Landing. She is married to Ross Colen and has a daughter and a grandson.
There is a three-way race for mayor in Aurora. Incumbent Mark Drury is on the ballot as a write-in with Democrat Melvin “Mel” Kremer and Republican Patrick Schwing.
