RISING SUN – The Ohio County Commissioners approved a resolution to oppose Link 101 at their joint meeting with County Council on Monday evening. The resolution stands firmly against the proposed State Route 101 “New Alignment” roadway corridor, otherwise known as Link 101, and any other alternatives besides the “no build” alternative.According to the resolution, the commissioners oppose the project because they believe the existing road network of Ohio County and neighboring areas are currently adequate, state funds would be better spent maintaining existing roads, increased traffic would diminish the character of the county, and the taxpayer and societal costs of the project would outweigh the benefits.“These reasons, and others, in our judgment indicate a lack of need for this project,” the resolution reads. The decision comes amid debate among residents of Ohio County and the neighboring area about the Link 101 project.
