Airman Logan P. Bovard graduated from the United States Air Force May 27, and received the John Lee Levitow award, the highest honor presented to a graduate of Air Force Enlisted Professional Military Education, including Noncommissioned Officer Academy, and the Senior NCO Academy.

After much discussion among city council members, Rising Sun’s contract with the Indiana Municipal Power Agency was extended. IMPA provides the electric power and energy to the city.
In response to a potential truck stop in Harrison one woman made sure her voice and support for Love’s Travel Stop was heard at the Harrison Township Trustees meeting on May 19. “I am here to put a face on truck drivers,” Joan Raby said.
The Ohio County Health Department is offering a Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine clinic. Those wishing to receive the vaccination have to be at least 18 years of age.
The Rising Sun Board of Works has hired Eagle Hollow to do the dock installation and parking lot repairs. Eagle Hollow bid the job at $12,500, and was the only bid.
A 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe that is no longer used by the Rising Sun Police Department was sold to Darrell Shell, the highest bidder at $5,000. The money will be deposited into the police department’s criminal investigation fund.
After taking last year off due to the pandemic, the Rising Sun High School cheerleaders were back for their third year hosting Princess Night May 21. The annual fundraiser raises money for the cheer squad and is put on by the cheerleaders, their coaches, and parent volunteers.
The Rising Sun Community Pool is set to open for the 2021 season on Saturday, May 29. The pool will offer adult aerobics, pool parties, swim lessons, and recreational swimming.
Workers with the Rising Sun Street Department recently painted a red line in between the double yellow line already dividing the part of High Street that runs in front of the Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Department. The red line was added to show respect and appreciation for the local fire department and its volunteers. The idea was introduced a few months ago when Rising Sun resident Sunshine Colen saw the idea on Facebook and proposed that the city paint blue lines on the streets in front of and beside the Rising Sun Police Department.
