Dearborn Co. recycling gets IDEM grant

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is awarding the Dearborn County Solid Waste Management District $68,667 from the agency’s Community Recycling Grant Program.Overall, IDEM awarded $541,245.00 to 15 applicants.Solid waste district director Sandy Whitehead said the money will be used to buy recycling equipment.“We will be using this grant to purchase the following: two recycling trailers for our 24/7 recycling locations, 12 one-yard bins to replace broken bins in our recycling trailers, and a forklift for use in our processing center and drive thru.”The grants are available to counties, municipalities, solid waste management districts, schools, universities, and nonprofit organizations located in Indiana.

Tree board plants trees downtown

HARRISON - The city’s Tree Board, with the suggestion from Dave Perkins of Harrison’s maintenance crew, replaced the nine hornbeam trees in downtown Harrison this fall with autumn gold’ ginkgo trees.Several of the hornbeam trees were no longer viable so rather than replace them as the board had done in the past, ginkgo were selected as the new street tree.
