Belva Etta (Sefton) White, 99, of Greensburg, Ind., passed away on March 11, 2024. She was born June 4, 1924, in Logan, Ind., the daughter of Grover and Lillie M. (Nixon) Anderson Sefton. Belva was a 1942 graduate of Bright High School and attended Indiana University on scholarship. She married Donald Floyd White on January 8, 1944, and together they had one daughter, June.
Belva worked in a penicillin lab in Greendale for a couple years before taking on the duty of milking 45 cows by hand, mowing hay, and plowing. She spent years collecting furnishings and things that belonged to her ancestors. Belva enjoyed church hymns as well as “On Top of Old Smoky” which was one of her favorite songs. She loved collecting rocks and showing them to everyone.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, June A. Allen and loving grandchildren, Michelle L. (husband, Jason) Russell and Bradley J. Allen; great-grandchildren, Sebastian Russell and Oliver Russell; also sisters, Betty Vaughn and Carolyn (husband, Bobby Joe) Ley Ritchey; sister-in-law, Nancy Sefton and several nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 58 years, Donald Floyd White; brothers, Walter “Bud” Anderson, Grover “Junior” Sefton, Allen Sefton, John Sefton and Melvin Sefton; sisters, Mildred Balser, Mary “Juanita” Jackson, and Alma Sefton.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Greensburg United Methodist Church on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 1 p.m. Rev. Chris Stephens will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Greensburg United Methodist Church or to Our Hospice of Decatur County.
