140 Years Ago Saturday, May 7, 1881 John Hamilton bought the Ohio Valley school house last Saturday, paying $69 for it. He will move it to his lot in Rising Sun and convert it into a dwelling house.
The Ohio County Extension Homemakers met Thursday, April 22, at the Ohio County Public Library with 17 members, Ohio County Extension Educator Shannon Chipman, and seven guests attending. The theme was “Memories – Living in the Time of Covid 19.” Salem Hilltoppers Club took care of registration.
Alma Alice (Burnett) Nally, age 97, of Parrish, Florida, formerly of Vevay, Indiana, passed away at 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021, in Parrish, Florida. Arrangements entrusted to Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home.
William A. “Just Bill” Marksberry, 65, of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Rising Sun and Ohio County are mourning the loss of a true community servant, former mayor and county commissioner William “Just Bill” Marksberry. He died Saturday, May 8, after an extended fight with cancer. He was 65.
Staff at the Rising Sun Education Center recently congratulated Deb Grigsby on graduating with her general education diploma, 21 years after abandoning her high school education. She completed the adult education classes online with the help of her mentor, Katie McCann Walton, who is a teacher at the center.
Rising Sun Mayor Steve Slack recently signed an executive order proclaiming honor and thanks to Dr. Christopher Walcott, Ohio County health officer, and his staff at the Ohio County Health Department for their “tireless efforts” in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
