Alfred J. Russell, age 26, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in Lawrenceburg.

He was born on June 16, 1999, in Florence, Ky., to Erika Schmidt Russell and Bennett Russell.

Alfred was a curious, gentle, and kind soul who had a deep love for science, nature, and all living things. His passions ranged from paleontology and animal conservation to the worlds of Pokémon, Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Doctor Who-fandoms that reflected his vivid imagination and love of adventure. He was especially devoted to animals and was a lifelong supporter of wildlife protection and preservation.

He is survived by his loving parents, Erika Schmidt and Mark Hinckley and Bennett and Kim Russell; his siblings, Ross Russell, Sam Hinckley, Paige Russell, Cody, Justin and Noah; beloved cats Chug and Goose, and many friends and extended family who will miss his intelligence, wit, and gentle heart.

Friends were received on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic St., Aurora, IN 47001. Funeral services followed at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Weyand-Geise officiating. The family encouraged people to wear Star Trek, Star Wars, Pokémon, Marvel, DC, LOTR, or other fandom clothing to honor his love of all things geeky.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alfred’s memory to The Red Wolf Sanctuary, P.O. Box 202, Rising Sun, IN 47040 – an organization that reflects his deep commitment to wildlife and conservation.
