Jo Ann Caplinger, 95, of Rising Sun, Ind., passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Dearborn in Lawrenceburg, Ind. Jo Ann was born in Rising Sun on June 9, 1928, a daughter of the late Anna (Mix) Holder and James C. Holder. She was a 1946 graduate of Rising Sun High School. Jo Ann married Herschal Leroy Caplinger on March 4, 1950, in Rising Sun. Jo Ann and Herschal were married over 46 years until his passing on July 2, 1996. Jo Ann was employed for 23 years at Rising Sun State Bank which later became Madison Bank and Trust. She attended Bible Baptist Church in Taylor Mill, Ky. Jo Ann loved sitting on her back porch overlooking the Ohio River and watching the hummingbirds that came to her feeders. She also enjoyed going to school and sporting events that her children and grandchildren participated in over the years.
 Jo Ann is survived by her two daughters, Karen Caplinger, of Rising Sun, and Andrea Brett and husband Brad of Norwood, Ohio; by her son, Mark Caplinger of Rising Sun; by her grandchildren, Jason Brett (Jami) of Westerville, Ohio, and Kara Ervin (Ryan) of Alexandria, Ky.; by her great-grandchildren, Drew Brett, Matt Brett, Conner Ervin, Preston Ervin and Selah Ervin. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Gary Caplinger (Pam) and by sisters-in-law, Sandra Gurley and Faye Caplinger. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, Herschal Caplinger and by her brothers, Gene, Verl and James Holder.
 Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Rising Sun-Ohio County EMS or Bible Baptist Church.
