Gary Thomas Tranor, 80, died peacefully in Bright, Ind., on November 24, 2023. Born on April 13, 1943, to Howard C. and Helen M. (McFarland) Tranor. A 1962 graduate of Hughes High School and a student at University of Cincinnati.
Before joining the Cincinnati Police Force, Gary served honorably in the Air National Guard, where he furthered his commitment to duty and excellence – his time with the Guard instilled a deep sense of pride and patriotism, which he carried throughout his life.
Officer Tranor’s distinguished career with the police force began on March 12, 1967, and over the next 22 years, he served the community with distinction, earning 11 letters of appreciation and commendation. Upon retiring on May 18, 1989, due to a physical disability, Gary left a legacy of bravery, commitment, and a comically unique sense of humor that could light up any room.
Gary spent his post-retirement days cherishing the outdoors and quality time with his beloved dog, Reecey. His sense of humor remained a staple of family gatherings, his jokes, and laughter echoing as fond memories for all who knew him.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Tammy, Gregory, Timothy, Thomas Tranor, his sister Nancy Robinson, and his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gary was incredibly proud of his family, and nothing brought him more joy than witnessing their growth and accomplishments.
Gary’s family will welcome friends and colleagues to a memorial service to honor his life and service. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by the service on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Lawrenceburg/Greendale, Ind.
Gary’s passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him, but his legacy of service, laughter, and love endures. As a father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Gary’s memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories and laughter shared by his family and friends.
