William Arthur Steele, “Pop,” 95, of Brookville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023. He was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Milan, Indiana, son of the late Basil and Eva (Welch) Steele.

Pop was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Lawrenceburg Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid coin collector. He worked as an auto mechanic at Joseph Chevrolet.

He is survived by his two sons, Bill (Bronwen) Steele of Sydney, Australia; Barry (Vicki) Steele of Brookville, Indiana; daughter, Gwen (George) LaRue of Virginia; sister, Glady Bee Hayes of Benham, Indiana; 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Eva Steele; loving wife, Helen Steele; three brothers, Russell Steele, Dale Steele, Albert Steele; and three sisters, Joann Brinson, Rita Demaree, Gladys Hayes.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, from noon to 2 p.m. at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Mark Kessen and Pastor George LaRue officiating.

Interment will follow in the Greendale Cemetery, Greendale, Indiana.
