Doris Frey

Doris (nee Hahn) Frey, passed away on Nov. 25, 2022, at the age of 94.

She was born in Harrison, Ohio, on May 1, 1928, to Edward and Dora (nee Howard) Hahn. After graduation, she went to work for Campbell-Hausfeld.

Doris had three goals in life: she wanted to be a secretary, a mother and wife, and a Catholic. She accomplished each one of these. She married Larry Frey on Oct. 6, 1951, in Harrison, Ohio. They had six children: Barbara Jo, Robert, Betty Anne, Bill, Brian and Bev, all of which created many gray hairs and many wrinkles from the laughter and joy they brought to their family. While being a mother she always made time for the church and her faith. She went to work as a secretary for St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Leon and retired just short of 50 years. Her children remember helping with bulletins and getting the church ready for weekend Masses. She made do with what she had and Doris was always cooking and baking with whatever she had. She always gardened and that also meant canning throughout the year to provide food for her family. Doris also enjoyed her flower garden as well. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and family gatherings. Bringing multiple generations together at her home brought joy to her face and created many family memories together. Doris also enjoyed reading books and when her great-grandchildren would read to her.

Doris is preceded in death by her beloved husband Larry Frey; parents: Edward and Dora (nee Howard) Hahn; Siblings: Howard (Ruth) Hahn, Hazel Kinnett, Mary Jane (Art) Waltamath, and Margaret Hahn.

Doris’s legacy will live on with her devoted children: Barbara Jo (Michael Ortman) Ault, Robert (Peggy) Frey, Betty Anne Frey, Bill Frey, Brian Frey and Bev (John) Stone; 13 wonderful grandchildren: Christopher Ault, Jody Sarringhaus, Kimberly (Christopher) Hall, Todd (Alicia) Ault, Jennifer (Adam) Hirsch, Jonathan Frey, Stephen (Lauren Gruber), Daniel Frey and Nicholas (Bobbi Jo) Frey, Matthew (Allison) Hollin, Mari Kate Stone, Drew (Krista) Stone and Rachel (Trea Ewing) Stone; and cherished great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Lily and Lydia Sarringhaus, Josephine and Evelyn Hall, Trevor, Lucas, Jayden and Maddox Ault, Abigail, Hannah, & Elizabeth Hirsch, Ava Thomas, Braylen Badger, Aleyah, Avery, Arabella, and Amberly Frey, Maverick Frey, Isabel and Lucille Hollin, and Collin Stone. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
