Betty Lou Mess, 86, of Moores Hill, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. She was born August 12, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter of the late Walter and Olive (Zachritz) Schummer.
 Betty attended both Trinity Lutheran Church and the Firmly Rooted Church. She was a member of the Homemakers Club. She was an excellent cook. She loved her flowers and her garden. She worked as a secretary and later in life she worked at Walmart.
 She is survived by her husband John Mess of Moores Hill; two sons, John (wife Donna) Mess of Bedford, Ind., and Kevin (wife Tracy) Mess of Guilford, Ind.; daughter Cindy Gulley of Dillsboro, Ind.; and two grandchildren, Brian Mess and Eden Gulley.
 She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Olive Schummer, and one brother, Walter Schummer.
 Family and friends are invited to graveside services to be held at Craven Cemetery, Milan, Ind., on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 11 a.m.
 Interment will follow in Craven Cemetery, Milan.
