Stacey Jannel McCabe, 42, of Moores Hill, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, peacefully in her home surrounded by loving friends and family. She was born June 9, 1982, in Lafayette, Ind.
Stacey graduated from Purdue University and went on to get her doctorate from Indiana University. She loved her time as a physical therapist and using her specialty to help others.
Stacey met her husband Scott at a Purdue basketball game after they both had graduated. They started dating and were married in September 2010. Stacey’s love for work had competition when she brought her beautiful daughter, Kenzie, into the world. She became a devoted mother and made more time for her hobbies.
Stacey loved to bake. She enjoyed celebrating others so she could make their favorite treat. She did bake sales for a cause with her niece Ava. She brought comfort to Scott’s family by making purple iced cupcakes every year to celebrate the heavenly birthday of her niece Evelyn. Everyone would get excited at her husband’s work when he would bring in Stacey’s blue lidded tin from his house because it meant Stacey made something great for them to eat.
Stacey enjoyed being outdoors, riding her bike and hiking. She loved going on long bike rides and enjoying nature. She was big on healthy eating and ongoing education. She was always reading books that either were about physical therapy or improving your health, especially as hers was declining.
Stacey added a new hobby later in life, dancing. She loved to do ballet. Dancing brought in new sweet friends that would help her through the tough times. It provided part of her “why” to fight, so she could dance.
If determination and strength could have fought the cancer, she would still be with us. She had endless hope and never gave up. Her willingness to help others never went away. As her ability to talk lessened, she still found ways to communicate and ask others about their own lives. She listened well and gave strong, loving hugs.
Towards the last few months, she wanted to experience everything. She ate all the delicious food and tried every chocolate thing imaginable and drank smoothies everywhere she went. She wanted to go on trips and do 5ks. Through family and friends, they slowly crossed items off her bucket list.
Stacey heard from God during her first round of radiation. She has a beautiful testimony and was eager to tell others of how God comforted her during the scary times. She welcomed prayer and loved worship music. Her faith was strong and was an inspiration to others. Knowing she danced her way into Jesus’ loving arms where there is no more sickness, no more pain, no more cancer, is a comfort to all she leaves from this world.
She is survived by her loving husband, Scott McCabe of Moores Hill; daughter, Kenzie McCabe of Moores Hill; stepfather, David VanHook of Wingate, Ind.; sister, Stephanie Meyer of the Philippines; mother- and father-in-law, Theresa and Mike McCabe of Moores Hill; sister-in-law, Beth (husband Adam) Legge of Moores Hill; two nieces, Ava Legge, Alayna Legge; and two nephews, Elijah Legge, Franklin Legge.
She was preceded in death by her niece, Evelyn Legge and her grandfather, Robert Martin.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bridge of Hope Worship Center, 4050 E County Rd 50 S, Milan, IN 47031. Funeral services will be held at Bridge of Hope Worship Center, Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 7 p.m. with Pastor Doug Norman officiating.
